Year0001-signed Swedish punks Viagra Boys returned to End of the Road Festival last night with a powerful statement of solidarity with Palestine and peaceful protesters who have been arrested for their advocacy.
The band’s performance closed out The Garden stage on the second night of the festival, marking their second End of the Road appearance. “We’re living in a fucked up world,” singer Sebastian Murphy told the crowd before the band launched into “Troglodyte”, from their 2023 album Cave World. “All of the world leaders today are fucking fascist pieces of shit who won’t admit that there’s a genocide going on! Free Palestine, and fuck the UK for arresting peaceful protesters. This song is about those people.”
Since forming in Stockholm in 2015 after a night out at a karaoke bar, the manic six-pice have generated a following with their satirical approach to punk, leading with a steadfast, infectious absurdity from their 2018 debut Street Worms to their most recent album viagr aboys released back in April. Despite incorporating humour, the band still prioritises a no-nonsense punk ethos embedded in their political and cultural critiques while remaining outspoken on social causes beyond the music.
End of the Road Festival concludes today with headline sets from Father John Misty, Black Country New Road, John Maus and Fabiano Palladino.
